They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, <em>and to prayer</em>. In addition to these other vital things that we talk about (preaching/small groups/fellowship, etc.) we can't afford to leave out the one thing that gives them all power - an attention to prayer. However, when I read the book of Acts and look at the early church (particularly Chapter 2), I see where they are devoted to the apostle's teaching, to the breaking of bread and to the fellowship of believers. I feel preaching and small groups are not an either/or, but rather a both/and. Yes, they need sound preaching of the word, but they also need relationships with other believers and a place where they can digest and chew on the principles of biblical teaching with other believers. At our youth program, we have Wednesday nights which are more of a preaching/teaching (yes, I do both) and Sunday nights for guys/girls small groups to develop godly relationships and depth. The part that spoke to me the most was the section on kerysso, I think that is where I struggle the most. I'm a good teacher who, partly thanks to you, understands the deep and serious need for preaching. kerysso is probably where I am lacking the most and it's good to be able to articluate that and also to be able to organize that in my thought process.
